About Us

McCabe & Wikstrom is proud to announce the opening of our new firm, formed in June 2014.  With almost fifty years of combined legal experience, our mission is to provide the best possible representation to all of our clients.

Selecting an attorney is often similar to choosing other professionals with whom you have a continuing relationship, such as a doctor, a dentist, an accountant, or even a financial planner.  At McCabe & Wikstrom, we firmly believe that there is an attorney out there who is best suited to each client's individual needs.  Attorneys, like other professionals, have their own individual styles of representation.  As a litigant, you must have a certain level of comfort and confidence in the person representing your interests, in order to make the attorney-client relationship most effective.

One of our goals at McCabe & Wikstrom is to insure that our clients needs are heard, and are met.  As a litigant, you should feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible, knowing that we are providing you with competant and experienced legal representation.  While any type of litigation is never easy, and can be a life altering expience, it does not have to be a life damaging experience.

Regarding civil litigation, Attorney McCabe brings over thirty years of legal experience to the table.  Practicing throughout the State, Attorney McCabe has a vast and diverse practice, including, but not limited to, subrogation, Social Security disability appeals, collection matters, landlord-tenant cases, negligence and auto accident claims, Workers’ Compensation, employment law and discrimination, commercial law and contract cases, consumer law matters, foreclosures and real estate litigation, as well as neighbor disputes.

Regarding real estate closings, Attorney McCabe and his knowledgeable staff can assist you through all stages of your closing. Once you have placed an offer on a piece of real estate that has been accepted by the buyer, Attorney McCabe will guide you though the remainder of the process.

Regarding probate matters, Attorney McCabe is skilled in the drafting of wills, health care proxy's and living wills, as well as powers of attorney.  In today's day and age, navigating the probate and health care waters can be difficult and confusing; let us prepare you as best as possible for every eventuality.

Regarding family law matters, it is an unfortunate statistic in the United States that more than half of our marriages end in divorce.  Connecticut is no exception.  The stress and emotional hardship of divorce is not only visited upon the parties, but upon children and extended families as well.  Making the decision to divorce should not be taken lightly, and there are many financial and emotional factors to be considered.

When making that decision, you should consult a legal professional who has experience practicing family law.  Attorney Wikstrom has represented men, women and children from all walks of life, with a myriad of legal, financial, and emotional issues. With respect to adults, Attorney Wikstrom represents parties in divorce matters, including issues of alimony, child custody and support, property division, and division of assets and liabilities.  Attorney Wikstrom also represents adults in post judgment matters, including modification of alimony, child custody, and support.

Regarding children, there are two types of attorneys appointed to represent children.  The first is a Guardian Ad Litem, who is appointed to represent the best interests of the child.  The second is an Attorney for the Minor Child, who is appointed to represent the wishes and desires of the child.  In either capacity, the role of the child’s attorney often involves developing a parenting plan tailored to the individual needs of the family.  The earlier an effective parenting plan is put into place, the easier the transition for the children, and the lower the level of conflict between the parents.

It should be noted that Attorney Wikstrom's approach to family law is comprehensive in nature.  Each family is different, and has different needs.  While a divorce is essentially the separation of the family, it is also the creation of two new family units.  Where children are concerned, making this transition as smooth and comfortable as possible is very important.  There are not only legal issues to be considered when divorcing, but emotional issues as well.  In many cases, co-parenting counseling and family therapy are often helpful in assisting families with this transition.
